Services are gaining an increasingly important share of foreign trade, with their contribution now approaching that of goods. Last year, services provided to clients abroad generated $3.22 billion, equivalent to 46% of total exports. The potential of this segment and the growth prospects for local companies will be one of the three strategic directions of Moldova Business Week 2026, taking place from 28 September to 2 October.

The export-focused agenda will combine thematic discussions and networking sessions with practical activities to develop new business opportunities. On the second day of the event, a study visit is scheduled to showcase the production and processing capabilities of Monicol & Sapico, as well as their experience on international markets. The Moldova Business Week 2026 programme will also feature "Moldovan Tourism as Export: From Destination to Economic Value", taking place on 1 October and focusing on tourism as an export sector and source of revenue. The event aims to turn destination promotion into new business partnerships and to support the inclusion of more tourism experiences from the Republic of Moldova in international travel programmes. The agenda will also include B2B meetings and dedicated sessions aimed at establishing new business partnerships between local operators and their counterparts from Switzerland, during which tourism offers with potential for international markets will be presented.

Also on 1 October, as part of the Moldova Export Forum, the 25 companies selected for the "Top Exporters from Moldova" programme will be recognised for the first time. The programme was launched by the Invest Moldova Agency and its finalists were selected from more than 1,300 exporting companies, based on data provided by the Customs Service of the Republic of Moldova, the National Bureau of Statistics and other relevant public sources. The programme will take place every two years, with more information available at topexporters.invest.gov.md.

Moldova's exports are changing: services gain ground alongside goods

The first edition of the "Top Exporters from Moldova" programme is being launched at a time when the structure of the Republic of Moldova's exports is visibly changing. In 2025, the country recorded a positive services trade balance, exporting $1.04 billion more in services than it imported. This development shows that an increasing number of local companies are able to deliver expertise, solutions and services to clients abroad, without being limited by the size of the domestic market.

Irina Tolstousov, Deputy Director for Country Image Promotion and Export Promotion, Invest Moldova Agency: "In 2025, the Republic of Moldova's exports reached approximately $7 billion, with 46% consisting of services exports, changing the economic paradigm of our country. Moreover, Moldova has a positive balance in this area – we export more than we import. These results reflect the transformation of the Moldovan economy and the ability of local companies to compete in international markets. Exports are no longer just about selling a product abroad. They mean integration into European value chains, developing long-term partnerships and building a more competitive economy. Our role at the Invest Moldova Agency is to accelerate this transformation."

In 2025, the Invest Moldova Agency had more than 3,000 interactions with the business community to promote exports, while its programmes provided support to 129 companies, with the aim of generating an additional $15 million in economic results.

Top service-exporting sectors in Moldova: IT, education, healthcare and transport

The growing share of services exports is not driven solely by IT services, which exceeded €1.05 billion in 2025, almost eight times their 2015 value.

Today, approximately 90% of the sector's output is delivered to clients abroad. The range of services exported to international markets is complemented by education and training services, which reached $137 million, healthcare services at $85.4 million, and air transport of passengers and cargo, which generated $260 million.

At the same time, travel services generated €845 million in 2025, in a year when more than half a million tourists visited the country.

Goods exports remain an important foundation of the economy

Alongside the growth of services, goods exports continue to account for a significant share of the economy, reaching $3.78 billion in 2025. Automotive, electronics and agri-food are among the sectors most strongly connected to the European Union market.

Between 2019 and 2025, the Republic of Moldova exported approximately €3.4 billion worth of electrical equipment and components to the EU, with more than 90% of shipments in this category destined for the European market.

The automotive wiring industry is one example, with exports increasing from €41 million in 2013 to €269 million in 2025, driven by the integration of local manufacturers into European supply chains.

The agri-food sector also remains one of the main contributors to goods exports. In 2025, exports of cereals and seeds exceeded €750 million, while agri-food products accounted for more than 45% of total goods exports.

The data points to an increasingly diversified export structure: on the one hand, manufacturing industries that have strengthened their position on the European market, and on the other, rapidly growing services with an increasingly significant share of added value in the economy.

Three strategic directions for Moldova Business Week 2026

The export of services is one of the three strategic directions of Moldova Business Week 2026, alongside European economic integration and sectoral investment profiles. Over five days, the event will bring together representatives of Moldovan companies, investors, potential clients and international partners through high-level forums, discussion panels, regional visits and B2B meetings. Through this component, Moldova Business Week aims to turn the demonstrated ability of Moldovan companies to operate in international markets into a more visible economic advantage and a source of new contracts, investment and partnerships.
