From 2 to 4 November, the maib team gathered in Berlin for a session dedicated to the bank's strategy and the priorities that will guide its growth in the coming years. The programme combined working sessions facilitated by Jesper Sørensen, Professor at Stanford Graduate School of Business, with meetings with representatives of leading technology and financial services companies.
The discussions focused on a clear objective: how maib can strengthen its ability to meet customer needs and support Moldova's economic growth. The team reviewed progress, examined the assumptions underpinning the bank's strategy and explored areas where investment can create long-term value.
Berlin provided a relevant setting for this work. Its technology and financial services ecosystem brings together companies developing new business models and reshaping the relationship between customers and financial services providers. Visits and meetings with representatives of Billie, Raisin, LIQID, AWS, Taktile, Aleph Alpha and other companies offered insights into digital platform development, the use of technology and improvements in operational efficiency.
Macar Stoianov, Deputy Chairman of maib:
"Today's results give us confidence. Today's decisions will define our future. In Berlin, we examined where we need to invest, which capabilities we need to build and how we can serve our customers better. Our next step is to translate these conclusions into clear priorities and pursue them with discipline. As Moldova moves closer to the European market, people and businesses need a strong financial partner that understands change and helps them seize new opportunities. This is the bank we continue to build."
The sessions facilitated by Jesper Sørensen connected insights from these meetings with maib's strategic direction. The focus was on the choices needed to strengthen the bank's competitive advantages and its organisational capacity to put them into practice—from skills and technology to resource allocation.
Jesper Sørensen, Professor at Stanford Graduate School of Business:
"Strategy is both thinking and doing; it's a cycle of placing bets, testing them and learning from what happens. In Berlin, maib's leadership showed the openness, curiosity and rigor that cycle requires. I look forward to seeing how maib puts to the test the inspiring insights gathered in Berlin, and leverages them to accelerate maib's impressive track record of growth and innovation."
The conclusions from the programme, titled "Innovation Trip", will help prioritise initiatives and guide investment towards services that better meet customer needs, more efficient processes and solutions that help businesses become more competitive. Through this work, maib is strengthening its role as a partner to people and businesses in a Moldova increasingly connected to the European economy.
We thank our partners at Scty for making our strategy session in Berlin a memorable experience.
