
In 2023, Moldova received external government loans worth $948.3 million (equivalent to 17.26 billion lei), which is $84.4 million (9.8%) more than in 2022.
As noted in the materials of the Ministry of Finance, in the structure of the influx of external government loans in the form of funds by type of creditor, the largest share belongs to multilateral creditors. In particular, the largest amount of loans to Moldova in January-December 2023 was transferred by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development - $309.5 million (32.6% of the total amount) and the International Monetary Fund - $217.8 million (23% of the total amount). They are followed by: International Bank for Reconstruction and Development - $113 million (11.9%); European Union - $97 million (10.2%); Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) - $92.2 million (9.7%); International Development Association (IDA) - $46.2 million (4.9%); French Development Agency - $43.1 million (4.6%); Council of Europe Development Bank - $12.5 million (1.3%); European Investment Bank - $11.9 million (1.2%); International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) - $5.1 million (0.6%). Regarding the structure of external loans by area, out of the total volume for the implementation of projects financed from external sources, $395.4 million (equivalent to 7 billion 285.4 million lei) was received in 2023, or 41.7% of the total amount, and to support the state budget - $552.9 million (equivalent to 9 billion 978.6 million lei), which is 58.3% of the total influx of new external loans in the specified period.// 11.04.2024 — InfoMarket.
