To conduct the Population and Housing Census, surveyors/census takers will visit households from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., including weekends.
According to the National Bureau of Statistics, the work schedule of the reviewers is flexible; they will visit households during their free time from their main work, but will mainly focus on the time from 17:00 to 21:00, when working citizens can be found at home. The department explained that if no one was home, reviewers will leave notices in the mailbox, on the gate or on the door indicating contact information in order to subsequently agree on a convenient time for reviewing. The NBS also provided answers to some common questions related to the census. Thus, the questions from the questionnaire were developed in accordance with international recommendations, as well as taking into account the census questionnaires for 2004 and 2014, to ensure comparability of data. In addition, questions for census forms have been widely discussed since December 2022. The question of midnight from April 7 to 8 and the location of the person being interviewed that night, according to the NBS, is important for identifying persons whose place of residence is in the place of the census . A similar approach was used in previous censuses. Citizens cannot refuse to participate in the census, but for some questions regarding nationality, language and religion they can choose the “do not report” answer. Census forms have been developed and are available in Romanian, Russian, Gagauz, Ukrainian, Bulgarian and Roma languages. The data collected from the census will be used for development projects at local and national levels. The census will provide answers to questions about how to distribute the state budget between local authorities, how many new schools, kindergartens, nurseries, and playgrounds need to be built, where more hospitals and emergency rooms are needed, and how public transport should be redesigned. The NBS emphasized that census data will not be used to collect taxes, but only for statistical purposes and in aggregate form, without the ability to identify the person who provided the data. The purpose of collecting data on housing in the country is to determine indicators of the standard of living of the population, the degree of occupancy of the housing stock, the provision of housing with heating installations, a kitchen, sewage system, a bathroom or shower indoors, at home, etc. More answers to questions about the census are available on the NBS website: www.statistica.gov.md/RPL2024. // 10.04.2024 — InfoMarket.
