The European Commission has presented a proposal for the gradual integration of Moldova and other candidate countries into the Single European Market in parallel with the EU accession process.
This was announced by the Co-Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Moldova-EU Association, Siegfried Muresan, who said that this was his proposal and now it is part of the European Commission's communication on the necessary reforms before the EU enlargement. "This is a very good proposal, which I, as head of the European Parliament delegation for relations with Moldova, presented 2 years ago, before Moldova was granted the status of a candidate country. Over the past 2 years, we have included this request in 4 official statements of the EU-Moldova Parliamentary Committee for Association, as well as in two European Parliament resolutions, which we discussed and which were voted for by the overwhelming majority of the MEPs," Siegfried Muresan said. He stressed that Moldova's gradual integration into the Single Market and other European programs will bring concrete benefits to the people, even before the actual accession to the European Union. In particular, the access to the single market means a full and permanent liberalization of the EU-Moldova trade, which means that Moldovan goods will enter the European market more easily. At the same time, through access to the Single Market, Moldovans will have easier access to quality European products at lower prices. "Last but not least, gradual integration into the Single Market will bring European quality standards to Moldova and will give investors more confidence to come to Moldova and create new jobs. The proposal presented now by the European Commission will have the full support of the European Parliament in order to become a reality, and its benefits will be felt as soon as possible by the Moldovans," Siegfried Muresan said. Economic Development and Digitalization Minister Dumitru Alaiba thanked him for his efforts and support. He stressed that the practical implementation of the European Commission's proposal on Moldova's gradual integration into the single European market will bring concrete benefits to people even before the actual accession to the European Union. "Our citizens will have easier access to quality European products at lower prices. We will implement European quality standards and give investors more confidence to come to Moldova and create new jobs," said Dumitru Alaiba. // 21.03.2024 - InfoMarket
