
The Interreg NEXT Romania-Moldova program until 2027 with a budget of over 85.8 million euros for communities in the border zone has been officially launched in Iasi.
The Ministry of Finance of Moldova announced this, noting that, thus, projects benefiting border communities from the whole territory of the Republic of Moldova and from the Romanian counties of Iasi, Galati, Vaslui, Botosani will be able to receive funding under this program. The official launching event of Interreg NEXT Romania-Moldova program until 2027 was attended by Minister of Finance of Moldova Veronica Sireteanu and Romanian Minister of Development, Public Works and Administration Cseke Attila, representatives of the European Commission, Romanian central and local authorities as well as other bodies interested in accessing the funds available within the program. The total budget of Interreg NEXT until 2027 is 85 million 878 thousand 268 Euro, of which 77 million 290 thousand 439 Euro is European funding and 8 million 587 thousand 829 Euro is national contribution. This program covers the following areas: health, education, tourism and culture, climate change, good governance and border management. Thus, within the framework of the program, medical and educational institutions and tourist facilities will be equipped and modernized and partner projects for the improvement of border control may be implemented. Also, personnel from these areas will be able to benefit from training and joint training, exchange of best practices, as well as awareness-raising campaigns will be organized for people from these areas to prevent and respond to natural disasters. Veronica Sireteanu noted that for Moldova, European funds are an important source of funding for community development. "It is very important how this program actually set its priorities, because "green" economy, social development with emphasis on medicine, education and, of course, cross-border cooperation are very important. It is extremely important to develop this area in the right way. These funds can become a very good springboard, showing us how we should develop the region with European funds," Veronica Sireteanu said. A project must have at least one partner from each participating state in order to receive funding.
