
The Government of Moldova and IFAD announce the launch of a grant competition for projects in the field of water supply and road infrastructure in rural areas of the country.
According to the South regional development agency, these are grants of up to $300,000 for projects in the following areas: small irrigation systems connected to central irrigation systems, which are on the balance of Apele Moldovei; small irrigation systems with an existing water source in the area where the system is installed; construction/rehabilitation of reservoirs/pools to collect water. It is noted that only irrigation systems capable of covering farmland with an area of up to 100 hectares can receive financial assistance. Irrigation system project proposals can only be submitted by groups of at least 20 small farmers/producers (with cultivated land (each) up to 10 ha, owned and/or leased). Grants of up to $200,000 will be awarded to rural road construction/rehabilitation projects that provide farmers with access to production areas and facilitate the marketing of small farmers' products. Project proposals for the construction/repair of rural roads can be submitted from groups of at least 50 small farmers/producers (with cultivated land (each) up to 10 ha, owned and/or leased). Only economic agents working in the field of agriculture or processing of agricultural products for at least 1 year have the right to participate in the competition. To prove agricultural activity, at least 4 members of the group must submit their financial statement for the last year or tax return for the last financial year.
