
Moldova’s external public debt increased in January 2022 by $49 million (+1.96%), amounting to $2 billion 555.1 million as of the end of the month.
The Ministry of Finance reported that, in the first month of this year, net external financing was positive and amounted to $75.13 million, since the volume of new loans received in January 2022 amounted to $82 million and turned out to be higher than payments on the principal amount of external debt for the specified period, which amounted to $6.87 million. At the same time, in January 2022, a negative value of fluctuations in the US dollar exchange rate against other currencies was registered, which amounted to $26.13 million, and as a result, in January 2022 external public debt in US dollar terms increased by $49 million (+1.96%) - up to $2 billion 555.1 million as of January 31, 2022.
