The trade sector provided almost 54% of enterprises’ turnover in 2019 – the NBS.
According to the results of a structural survey of enterprises, in 2019, the turnover of enterprises in Moldova amounted to 344.83 billion lei. Almost 54% of them were provided by the wholesale and retail sector (185.7 billion lei); 16.5% - manufacturing industry (6.9 billion lei); 6.5% - the sphere of production and supply of electricity and heat, gas, hot water and air conditioning (22.59 billion lei); 6% - the sphere of transport and storage (20.74 billion lei); 5.9% - the construction industry (20.45 billion lei). In 2019, the production volume of about 36.3 thousand enterprises amounted to 178.6 billion lei, about 30% of which was provided by the manufacturing industry. Almost 64% of the turnover was provided by private enterprises, 19.6% - foreign enterprises, 10.4% - mixed enterprises with foreign capital, 5.4% - state-owned enterprises, 0.8% - enterprises with private-state ownership. According to statistics, in Moldova, the largest number of enterprises is registered in wholesale and retail trade - 15.6 thousand (about 43% of the total), in the same sector the most workers are employed - 116.2 thousand (29.3%).
