On June 4, Moldova celebrates the 34th anniversary of the founding of the National Bank of Moldova (NBM) and the professional holiday of banking system employees
NBM Governor Anca Dragu sent her congratulations to all banking system employees. She noted that the banking system is the “heart” of the economy, which sustains its life, and that the National Bank is a “modern, independent, transparent, and forward-looking institution guiding Moldova's path toward a strong and European economy.” "We are an active part of the process of joining the European Union, a project which, in addition to reforms and convergence, is a guarantee of peace, stability, and a common future in the European family. The reforms of recent years: the introduction of the MIA instant payment system, acceptance in the SEPA zone, the fight against illegal financing, and the digitization of banking processes are not just technical achievements. They are signs of a new heartbeat: healthy, European, transparent. At the heart of these efforts are banking professionals, those who ensure stability, rethink financial instruments, and create a safer, more transparent, and more people-friendly banking system," she said. Anca Dragu noted that for 34 years, the NBM has had reliable friends—central banks with which it shares common values, especially the National Bank of Romania—as well as reliable international partners such as the European Union, the IMF, the World Bank, and other institutions that have provided support through dialogue, trust, and real cooperation. "However, the most important partner remains the citizen. In recent years, more and more people have been crossing our threshold: at the NBM museum, at public events, at financial education classes. This shows us that there is a genuine desire for closeness, learning, and involvement in understanding the economic mechanisms that affect our lives. We have an ambitious agenda ahead of us: European integration, digital innovation, and strengthening the financial system that supports sustainable economic growth and the well-being of every citizen. And we are ready to build it together, with great courage and determination," said the Governor of the National Bank. Bank Employee Day is celebrated in Moldova on June 4. It was on this day in 1991 that the National Bank of Moldova was founded. Currently, there are 11 banks in Moldova, employing about 8,400 people. // 04.06.2025 — InfoMarket
