In Moldova, the MIA instant payment system was used by more than 400 thousand individuals and more than 750 merchants by the end of November 2024 – the NBM

Representatives of the National Bank of Moldova (NBM) announced this while presenting Moldova's progress under the chapter “Free Movement of Capital” within the bilateral screening meeting in Brussels. The Moldovan delegation, headed by Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov, included Vladimir Munteanu, First Vice-Governor of the NBM, as well as other representatives of the National Bank of Moldova. Also, members of the Working Group from Chisinau, who are in charge of harmonizing the national legislation with the EU legislation, participated in this online meeting. The agenda of the event included topics from the NBM's fields of competence, such as free movement of capital and payments, payment systems, as well as prevention and combating money laundering and terrorism financing. The subject of Moldova's accession to the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) was also touched upon. As Vladimir Munteanu emphasized, Moldova's accession to this ecosystem will bring tangible financial advantages and benefits both to financial institutions and end users - individuals and legal entities. “Thanks to the reduction of transaction costs and simplification of cross-border payments, the integration into SEPA represents a major step towards increasing Moldova's economic competitiveness and promoting a more consolidated convergence with the European financial ecosystem,” he said. Another topic concerned the MIA instant payment system, launched by the NBM in March 2024 for individuals and, starting from July, for legal entities as well. As of the end of November, more than 400 thousand individuals and more than 750 merchants have used the MIA system, about 30% more for individuals and about 4 times more for merchants, compared to September. // 17.12.2024 - InfoMarket.
