Members of the administrative and supervisory boards of central banks from South-Eastern Europe gathered at a regional conference in Chisinau

According to the National Bank of Moldova (NBM), the NBM organized the forum in cooperation with the International Monetary Fund and the Center of Excellence in Finance (CEF), which brought together executive and non-executive members of the administrative or supervisory boards of central banks, as well as other high-level representatives of Southeast European central banks, to discuss the governance, risk management and communication challenges facing central banks in today's ever-changing environment. At the opening session, Anca Dragu, Governor of the NBM, stated that the responsibility is to ensure that central banks not only respond adequately to crises, but also actively adapt to market dynamics, thus strengthening long-term financial stability. CEF Director Jana Repansek emphasized the link between a learning-oriented organization and governance, and stressed the importance of the conference themes, exchange of experiences and cooperation among the participants of Southeast European central banks, which included: the Central Bank of Albania, the Central Bank of Kosovo, the Central Bank of Montenegro, the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the National Bank of Croatia, the National Bank of Northern Macedonia, the National Bank of Romania, the National Bank of Ukraine, the National Bank of Moldova, the IMF and the CEF. During the conference, participants discussed various models related to the roles and responsibilities of executive and non-executive members of administrative or supervisory boards. They also reviewed the management of current risks and challenges, especially cybersecurity and the financial technology sector. From the perspective of the IMF's Central Bank Transparency Code, they shared their views and experiences with this instrument. Conference participants also spoke about the main changes in central bank (EU) legislation that affect the mandates, decision-making process and independence of central banks. The conference is part of the NBM project “Institutional Transformation into a Learning-Oriented Organization” (NBM LearnOrgLab).
