According to the National Bank of Moldova, the share of loans issued in national currency amounted to 73.1% of the total amount, in foreign currency - 26.1%, and loans linked to foreign currency exchange rates - 0.9%. The volume of new loans in national currency amounted to 2 billion 718.1 million lei, decreasing by 33.3% compared to the previous month. The volume of new loans issued in foreign currency, converted into lei, amounted to 968.7 million lei, which is 27.9% less than the previous month. The volume of issued loans linked to foreign currency exchange rates amounted to 31.7 million lei, decreasing by 47.7% compared to the previous month. From the point of view of the terms of loans issued, the most popular were loans for a period of 2 to 5 years (56.2% of the total volume of loans), where loans provided to legal entities accounted for the main share of 38.5% of the total volume of loans provided. The majority (67.6%) of new loans were provided by banks to non-financial commercial companies. The structure of loans to legal entities is dominated by loans for trade (42.5%). In January 2024, individuals took out loans for 1 billion 079.3 million lei, which is 14.1% less than the previous month. At the same time, the majority of loans - 722.1 million lei (-14.5% compared to the previous month), or 66.9% of the total volume, were consumer loans. Most of these loans (624.1 million lei) were provided in lei for a period of 2 to 5 years. Mortgage loans amounted to 352.5 million lei (-13.3% compared to the previous month), or 32.7% of the total volume of loans to individuals.
