Prices in Moldova will continue to increase this year, but their growth rate will decrease, and inflation will be within 5% - Anca Dragu.

The President of the National Bank of Moldova stated this while answering questions from journalists after the presentation of this year’s first Inflation Review. She recalled that annual inflation (over the last 12 months) in January 2024 was approximately 4.6%, and for the whole year it will be within 5%. “That is, prices will continue to rise, but only by 4-5%. When inflation was 34%, prices rose by 34%. Disinflation is a normal phenomenon, a decrease in the rate of price growth. Prices are rising, but the rate of growth will slow down. There is a difference between deflation and disinflation. Deflation means falling prices. But our prices will not decrease this year, only the rate of price growth will decrease. Prices continue to rise, but at a slower pace. There will be disinflation, not deflation, in which there is a decrease in prices,” emphasized the head of the National Bank of Moldova. // 13.02.2024 — InfoMarket
