
The net profit of the National Bank of Moldova in 2021 amounted to 1 billion 071.7 million lei, decreasing by 27.8% compared to 2020 (1 billion 485.2 million lei).
These are the data published by the National Bank on its financial statements for the past year. The materials note that at the same time, the profit of the NBM to be distributed (at the end of the year) in 2021 amounted to 294.3 million lei against 813.9 million lei in 2020 (a decrease of 2.8 times). This was due, among other things, to the fact that about 778.4 million lei in 2021 was used to cover exchange rate losses from the revaluation of foreign currency reserves, while in 2020 this figure amounted to 656.3 million lei. According to the financial statements, in particular, the interest income of the NBM on short-term placements in 2021, compared to the previous year, decreased by more than 3.9 times - from 75.9 million to 19.3 million lei. Herewith, interest income on securities decreased by 2.7 times - from 413.2 million to 155.4 million lei, while interest income on loans and REPOs increased almost by 4 times - from 680 thousand lei to 2.7 million lei. According to the NBM, its total profit from transactions, exchange rate differences and revaluation of precious metals in 2021 amounted to 947.5 million lei against 831.07 million lei a year earlier (+14%). The profit of the NBM from the revaluation of securities in 2021 amounted to 2.54 million lei against 35.2 million lei a year earlier (a decrease of 13.9 times).
