Moldovan banking sector’s net profit amounted to 799.9 million lei in the first quarter of 2022, up 89.4% (+377.5 million lei) from the same period in 2021.

The National Bank of Moldova (NBM) reported this when assessing the financial situation in the banking sector in the first 3 months of the year. According to the NBM, the increase of profits in January-March 2022 was due to the higher interest revenues - 565.5 million lei (+50.4%), revenues from exchange rate differences - 143.6 million lei (+57.6%) and revenues from fees and commissions - 107.1 million lei (+20.1%). At the same time, non-interest expenses increased by 375.4 million lei (+30.9%) and interest expenses increased by 72.2 million lei (+24.4%). The total revenues of banks in the 1st quarter of 2022 amounted to 2.8 billion lei and increased by 825.1 million lei (+42.7%) as compared to the same period of the previous year. At the same time, in the structure of revenues the share of interest revenues constituted 61.1% (1.7 billion lei) and non-interest revenues - 38.9% (1.1 billion lei). At the same time, their total expenses in January-March 2022 amounted to 2 billion lei, having increased by 447.6 million lei (+29.6%) compared to the same period in 2021. At the same time, interest expenses amounted to 368.1 million lei (18.8% of the total), and non-interest expenses - 1.6 billion lei (81.2% of the total). According to the National Bank of Moldova, the return on assets and return on equity capital at the end of March 2022 amounted to 2.7% and 16%, respectively, increasing by 0.7 p.p. and 3.6 p.p., compared to the situation as of the end of 2021. // 02.06.2022 – InfoMarket
