Such data were presented by the National Bank of Moldova in its report for last year, noting that the number of banknotes in circulation in quantitative terms decreased by 4.2% over the year, and in value terms - increased by 5%. At the end of 2021, in quantitative terms, the most in circulation were banknotes with a nominal value of 1 lei - 83.49 million pieces, which is 26.26% of the total. This is followed by denominations of 200 lei - 81.49 million pieces (25.63% of the total), denominations of 100 lei - 49.47 million pieces (15.56%), and denominations of 50 lei - 40.05 million pieces (12.6%). There were also 17.83 million 10 lei banknotes in circulation (5.61%), 15.54 million 5 lei banknotes (4.89%), 13.51 million 20 lei banknotes (4.25%). There were also 11.76 million banknotes worth 500 lei (3.7%) and 4.76 million banknotes worth 1 thousand lei (1.5%). Taking into account the nominal value, in monetary terms, the largest share in the cash turnover at the end of 2021 was accounted for by 200 lei banknotes - they were issued for a total amount of about 16.3 billion lei (46.91% of the total amount of paper money in circulation). Next come 500-lei banknotes - their total nominal value amounted to 5.88 billion lei (16.92%), 100-lei banknotes - by 4.95 billion lei (14.24%), banknotes of 1000 lei - 4.76 billion lei (13.69%), 50-lei banknotes - for 2 billion lei (5.76%).The total nominal value of 20-lei banknotes was 270.3 million lei (0.78% of the total amount of paper money in circulation), 10-lei banknotes - 178.3 million lei (0.51%), 1-lei banknotes - 83 .49 million lei (0.24%), 5-lei banknotes - 77.7 million lei (0.22%). // 18.04.2022- InfoMarket.
