According to the data published by the National Bank on its financial statements for the last year, its profit to be distributed (at the end of the year) in 2020 amounted to 813.9 million lei against 436.8 million lei in 2019, that is, increased by almost 1.9 times. This was mainly due to the fact that more than 656.3 million lei in 2020 was directed to cover losses from exchange rate differences from revaluation of foreign exchange reserves, and 14.9 million lei - to cover losses from exchange rate differences from revaluation of reserves of precious metals, while a year earlier these indicators were 141.4 million and 10.4 million lei. According to the financial statements, in particular, the NBM's interest income on short-term placements in 2020, in comparison with the previous year, decreased by more than 3 times - from 232.2 million to 75.9 million lei. Herewith, interest income on securities decreased by 40% - from 689.1 million to 413.2 million lei, while interest income on loans issued and repos decreased 2.3 times - from 1 million 593 thousand to 680 thousand lei. According to the NBM, its total profit from transactions, exchange rate differences and revaluation of precious metals in 2020 amounted to 831.07 million lei against 211.4 million lei a year earlier (an increase of 3.9 times).
