In particular, the Organization for the Development of Entrepreneurship (ODA) held a training event in Chisinau on Tuesday dedicated to the development of "Renewable Energy Communities," organized as part of the European project "REC4SMEs - Supporting SMEs through Renewable Energy Communities," funded by the European Union through the Single Market Programme. The event brought together representatives of central and local governments, international energy experts, entrepreneurs, support organizations, and development partners involved in promoting energy efficiency and the green transition in Moldova. Natalia Selevestru, State Secretary of the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization, emphasized the strategic role of SMEs in the process of sustainable economic transformation. According to her, a "green" economic transition is impossible without the active participation of small and medium-sized enterprises. Energy communities provide entrepreneurs with the opportunity to collaborate, improve energy efficiency, and promote the development of a modern, sustainable economic model aligned with European goals. In turn, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Energy, Carolina Novac, emphasized the impact of energy communities on energy security and local independence, noting that renewable energy communities represent an important tool for strengthening energy security and accelerating the green transition. These initiatives enable the production and consumption of renewable energy locally, helping to reduce costs and increase energy independence for communities and businesses. ODA Director Vadim Codreanu emphasized the importance of developing energy communities to enhance the competitiveness of SMEs and reduce their energy vulnerability, noting that renewable energy communities represent a practical solution that SMEs can use to reduce energy costs and become more resilient and competitive. "Through the REC4SMEs project, we aim to provide entrepreneurs with concrete tools, expertise, and functional models that will accelerate the transition to green energy and sustainable development," he said. The working sessions presented the objectives and results of the REC4SMEs project, as well as the experiences and best practices of Moldova, Romania, Slovenia, and Italy in implementing energy communities. Furthermore, training sessions addressed the legislative framework, technical solutions, and operational models necessary for the development and implementation of renewable energy communities. Participants also discussed the project's call for proposals for pilot renewable energy community initiatives for SMEs in the agri-food and retail sectors. Three pilot communities will be selected under the call, each of which will receive specialized assistance and vouchers of up to €20,000 to develop the technical, legal, and organizational solutions necessary for establishing energy communities. The REC4SMEs project is being implemented by an international consortium of partners from Moldova, Romania, Slovenia, and Italy, coordinated by ODA, and aims to establish 12 renewable energy communities internationally, three of which will be in Moldova. The total budget of the project is 938 thousand euros, of which 246 thousand euros will be managed by ODA.//26.05.2026 – InfoMarket.
