Moldova is studying Romania's experience in consolidating its competitive environment and adapting it to EU standards
In particular, Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization Eugen Osmochescu met with a delegation from the Romanian Competition Council and the leadership of the Moldovan Competition Council. The parties discussed consolidating the competitive environment and accelerating the process of harmonizing national legislation with EU standards in the context of Moldova's accession negotiations with the EU. During the meeting, Moldova's priorities for implementing European competition rules and state aid were analyzed, with an emphasis on strengthening the institutional capacity necessary for the effective implementation of European legislation. Eugen Osmochescu emphasized that the development of a modern and transparent competition system is a crucial element in enhancing economic competitiveness and integrating Moldova into the European market. According to him, progress under Chapter 8, "Competition Policy," is a strategic priority for Moldova. "Strengthening institutions and aligning them with European norms contributes to the creation of a predictable, fair, and attractive economic environment for investment," stated the Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization. The Romanian delegation presented Romania's experience in the EU accession process, including mechanisms for adapting state aid schemes to European norms, as well as models of interinstitutional cooperation necessary for the effective implementation of EU rules. They also emphasized the role of government policies and economic support instruments in developing a healthy competitive environment based on transparency, clear rules, and the efficient use of public resources.
