Almost 3 billion lei allocated for local and regional development in Moldova between 2021 and 2024 - Alexandru Munteanu

The Prime Minister made this statement while speaking at the 2nd meeting of the Working Group on Moldova of the European Committee of the Regions. The event, which is taking place in Chisinau, is bringing together over 100 mayors from Moldova and EU countries to discuss progress in the European integration process, opportunities for local communities, and preparations for accessing European development funds. Alexandru Munteanu emphasized that European integration is aimed at creating strong communities that offer people comfortable living conditions. "The European path passes through our communities. The transposition of European legislation, our reform program, and institutional transformations—all of this only makes sense if it is implemented in every village and town, if it improves the standard of living and the quality of services provided to people," the Prime Minister stated. He spoke about the unprecedented investments made in recent years to modernize Moldova's communities. Thus, from 2021 to 2024, nearly 3 billion lei was allocated for local and regional development. During this period, more than 700 km of roads, 1,420 km of water supply networks, 403 km of sewerage networks, and 610 km of street lighting networks were commissioned, 265 schools and kindergartens were modernized, and 254 parks and sports grounds were renovated. "We constantly care about communities. Our entire reform program begins with a fundamental goal: providing citizens with better services. We want basic services to be conveniently accessible to people. We want services to become increasingly accessible, including through digitalization. We want communities to develop equitably," the Prime Minister stated. At the same time, Alexandru Munteanu emphasized the importance of close cooperation between central and local governments, as well as between Moldovan and European authorities, to maximize the opportunities offered by EU accession. In this regard, Moldova's partnership with the European Committee of the Regions, as well as its ongoing assistance to Romania, were highly praised. "Europe is not built solely in the Bureau of European Integration or in government institutions. Europe is built through every renovated hospital, through drinking water in homes, through street lighting, through good schools and quality services. And you are the leaders of these processes. You are the mayors who can achieve European integration locally, in the communities that elected you. The European Union means that Europe reaches every village," the head of government added. The Working Group on Moldova of the European Committee of the Regions was created to promote political dialogue and cooperation between Moldovan local authorities, the government, and European institutions. Through the Working Group, local authorities in our country can directly communicate their concerns, needs, and experiences to the European level.// 24.11.2025 — InfoMarket.
