
The IMF has raised its GDP growth forecast for Moldova in 2025 by 1.1 percentage points, from 0.6% to 1.7%
This follows from the International Monetary Fund's new October World Economic Outlook (WEO). At the same time, IMF experts have lowered their forecast for Moldova's economic growth in 2026 by 0.3 percentage points, from 2.5% to 2.2%, and by the end of the next five-year period (2030), they forecast GDP growth of 3.5% for our country, instead of the previous forecast of 5%. At the same time, IMF analysts have lowered their inflation forecast for the current and coming years, estimating that average annual inflation in Moldova will be 7.7% in 2025 instead of the previously expected 8%, and 5.5% in 2026 instead of 5.9%. At the same time, the average annual inflation forecast for 20230 remains at 5%. According to IMF experts, inflation in Moldova as of the end of 2025 will be 6.2% instead of the previously forecast 6.3%. The Fund's experts also changed their forecast for Moldova's current account deficit, expecting it to be 19.3% of GDP in 2025, 20.4% in 2026, and 14.8% in 2030 (the previous forecast for 2025 was 14.5%, for 2026 - 13.8%, and for 2030 - 11.3%). It should be noted that in its previous April World Economic Outlook, the IMF lowered its GDP growth forecast for Moldova in 2025 from 3.7% to 0.6%. For 2026, the Fund's experts predicted Moldova's economic growth at 2.5%, and for 2030 - at 5%. As previously reported by the National Bureau of Statistics, Moldova's GDP in the first half of 2025 amounted to 155 billion 293 million lei, unchanged in real terms compared to the same period in 2024. At the same time, in the second quarter of 2025, compared to the same period last year, the country's GDP amounted to 82 billion 313 million lei and increased by 1.1% compared to the same period in 2024, as well as grew by 1.6% compared to the first quarter of 2025. The Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization previously lowered its GDP growth forecast for Moldova in 2025 from 2% to 1.3%. The World Bank raised its forecast for Moldova's GDP growth in 2025 from 0.9% to 1.5% and in 2026 from 2.4% to 2.7%. At the same time, it lowered its economic growth forecast for Moldova in 2027 from 4.4% to 3.8%. The EBRD lowered its GDP growth forecast for Moldova in 2025 from 1.8% to 1.5%, but kept its economic growth forecast for the country in 2026 at 3.8%.
