
The World Bank has raised its GDP growth forecast for Moldova in 2025 by 0.6 percentage points, from 0.9% to 1.5%, and in 2026 by 0.3 percentage points, from 2.4% to 2.7%
At the same time, it lowered its economic growth forecast for Moldova in 2027 by 0.6 percentage points, from 4.4% to 3.8%. This follows from the latest World Bank's “Europe and Central Asia Economic Update: Jobs and Prosperity.” It should be noted that the World Bank's Global Economic Prospects report for January 2025 stated that the World Bank had maintained its forecast for Moldova's gross domestic product growth in 2025 and 2026 at 3.9% and 4.5%, respectively. Later, in the World Bank's Global Economic Prospects report published in June 2025, it was noted that the World Bank had lowered its forecast for Moldova's GDP growth in 2025 from 3.9% to 0.9%, and in 2026 from 4.5% to 2.4%, and for 2027, it forecast Moldova's economic growth at 4.4%. As previously reported by the National Bureau of Statistics, Moldova's GDP in the first half of 2025 amounted to 155 billion 293 million lei, unchanged in real terms compared to the same period in 2024. At the same time, in the second quarter of 2025, compared to the same period last year, the country's GDP amounted to 82 billion 313 million lei and increased by 1.1% compared to the same period in 2024, as well as grew by 1.6% compared to the first quarter of 2025. The Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization previously lowered its forecast for Moldova's GDP growth in 2025 from 2% to 1.3%. The IMF reduced its forecast for Moldova's GDP growth in 2025 from 3.7% to 0.6%. At the same time, the Fund's experts forecast Moldova's economic growth at 2.5% for 2026 and 5% for the end of the next five-year period (2030). The EBRD has lowered its GDP growth forecast for Moldova in 2025 from 1.8% to 1.5%, but has maintained its economic growth forecast for the country in 2026 at 3.8%.
