According to the Balance of Payments data published by the National Bank of Moldova, during this period, the general government's external debt increased by $1 billion 152.41 million (+32.2%) – from $3 billion 575.01 million at the end of the first half of 2024 to $4 billion 727.42 million at the end of the first half of 2025. This increase was due to the acquisition of new external loans. At the same time, the National Bank’s debt decreased by $9.42 million (-18.6%), from $50.59 million to $41.17 million, while the debt of depository institutions, excluding the central bank, increased by $40.14 million (+9.1%), from $439.76 million to $479.9 million. The debt of other sectors (other financial institutions, non-financial enterprises, households) increased by $222.17 million (+5.6%), from $3 billion 989.6 million to $4 billion 211.77 million.
