The Prime Minister of Moldova said this at a meeting with his Japanese counterpart Shigeru Ishiba. As reported by the government press service, "Japan has become an increasingly important economic partner for our country over the years": compared to last year, trade turnover has increased by 19%, including an increase in sales of Moldovan wines on the Japanese market. "Moldova can become a launching pad for Japanese investments in the region, especially in promising areas such as digitalization and green energy," Dorin Recean emphasized, noting such advantages as direct access to the EU market, a competitive business environment and a well-trained workforce. The Prime Minister thanked the Japanese side for its ongoing assistance to our country. Japan supports projects in agriculture, healthcare, education and local development. Over the last 4 years alone, the volume of gratuitous aid provided by Japan to our country amounted to 600 million lei. For his part, Shigeru Ishiba stressed that Japan will continue to support the strengthening of democracy in Moldova, as well as the development of our country through projects in the field of agriculture and industrial promotion. The parties discussed the possibilities of developing bilateral partnership, investments and implementing new projects for the benefit of the people. The Prime Ministers also discussed the regional context and the domestic political situation. Both leaders stressed that the democratic holding of elections this fall is of crucial importance for regional and international stability. Dorin Recean also met with members of the Japan-Moldova parliamentary friendship group, with whom he discussed the possibilities of intensifying bilateral political dialogue, including by organizing a joint meeting.
