Moldelectrica holds high-level technical meetings with international partners in the context of Moldova's integration into the European energy network and strengthening regional cooperation
In particular, on July 16–17, the state-owned enterprise Moldelectrica organized a series of technical working meetings with representatives of ENTSO-E Continental Europe, the Energy Community Secretariat, the Romanian company Transelectrica, the Ukrainian NPC Ukrenergo, the Moldovan Ministry of Energy, and the National Agency for Energy Regulation. As noted in the Moldelectrica statement, the events took place during a strategically important period for the national power system, in the context of intensifying Moldova's integration into the European energy network and strengthening regional cooperation in the field of energy security. Over the course of two working days, participants discussed a wide range of issues related to the functioning, development, and interaction of the Moldovan power system with neighboring and European networks. They discussed issues related to the safe operation of the system, balancing the national power system, developing digital infrastructure and tools, the process of allocating capacity for interconnection, as well as the development of European standards in this area and their transposition into national legislation. Particular attention was paid to cooperation within the framework of the UAMD joint control block, consisting of the energy systems of Ukraine and Moldova, and to ensuring the quality of control in order to meet ENTSO-E requirements. Emergency power supply mechanisms and financing options for upgrading the grid and SCADA system were also discussed, including through energy storage projects (BESS) as potential balancing sources. "These meetings are not just technical exercises for operators and regulators, but a reflection of our shared commitment to building a stable, sustainable, and fully integrated electricity system in the European market. Close cooperation with ENTSO-E, Energy Community partners, national regulators, and operators in the region allows us to move confidently toward our strategic goal of fully integrating the national power system into the European energy system," said Sergiu Aparatu, Acting CEO of Moldelectrica. On the second day, ENTSO-E Continental Europe representatives, led by Olivier Arrivé, Chairman of the ENTSO-E System Operations Committee (SOC), visited Moldelectrica's headquarters and the National Dispatch Center. The visit included a presentation of the network's operational architecture, a demonstration of data flows and digital tools used for real-time dispatching, as well as a session on the operation of the LFC UA/MD control unit and synchronization with neighboring systems. According to Moldelectrica, the power systems of Moldova and Ukraine were synchronized with the continental European power system in March 2022 as an emergency measure in response to regional crises and to ensure the stability of the power system in the complex geopolitical situation at the time. This synchronization was made possible by technical and institutional efforts coordinated at national and European level and enabled Moldova to maintain the operation of its system in a stable and interconnected manner. Subsequently, in November 2023, the state-owned enterprise Moldelectrica was granted observer status in ENTSO-E, which is official recognition of the progress achieved and paves the way for the active participation of Moldova's system operator in the decision-making, operational, and strategic planning processes of the European energy network. The meetings on July 16-17 confirmed the openness of all parties involved to deepen technical cooperation, maintain institutional dialogue, and accelerate the processes necessary to ensure the stable, transparent, and comprehensive functioning of Moldova's energy system for the benefit of its citizens and the national economy. // 18.07.2025 — InfoMarket.
