Moldova’s merchants will be able to use virtual cash registers and electronic tax receipts (eBon) for the first time

According to the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization, this new initiative, approved by the Moldovan government, aims to reduce the administrative burden and support entrepreneurs, especially in rural areas. For the first time, merchants will be able to use virtual cash registers and electronic tax receipts (eBon) — a modern, affordable, and efficient digital solution. The new measure removes barriers that have previously limited the use of virtual cash registers, helping to reduce costs for small and medium-sized enterprises and simplify compliance with tax legislation. The apps can be installed on a phone, tablet, or computer, and tax receipts will be issued automatically and can be sent to customers by email or SMS. Receipts can be printed on request. “This digital solution offers real benefits to entrepreneurs: lower costs, simplified procedures, and greater transparency. Whether the matter concerns a small family business in a village or a company in a city, everyone can benefit from this digital transformation,” said Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization Doina Nistor. According to her, the main objectives of this initiative are: reduction of operating costs – annual savings of thousands of lei for small businesses and up to millions for large companies; accessible digital solutions – easy-to-use applications that reduce administrative efforts and the risk of sanctions; support for digitalization in rural areas – merchants in villages will have access to the same modern tools as in cities; increased transparency and reduced bureaucracy – by replacing outdated equipment with modern electronic solutions. The cost of a virtual cash register will be around 75 lei per month, which is significantly less than the cost of maintaining traditional cash registers. Doina Nistor emphasized that the government will continue to promote reforms that will directly benefit citizens and entrepreneurs, reduce bureaucracy, and support the use of modern technologies in all parts of the country. The bill regulating the use of virtual cash registers and electronic receipts will be submitted to parliament for approval. This measure is part of the government's strategy to accelerate the digitalization of the economy and actively support the transformation of the business environment in Moldova. // 02.05.2025 – InfoMarket.
