Moldova has made progress in digitizing financial services and expanding access to modern financial instruments for the population - the National Bank of Moldova (NBM)
Anca Dragu, Governor of the National Bank of Moldova stated this, during a high-level debate organized by the World Bank in Washington. The central theme was the promotion of financial accessibility as a driving force for sustainable economic development in the Europe and Central Asia region. The event, entitled “Promoting Women's Economic Empowerment through Financial Inclusion,” brought together representatives of international financial institutions, central banks, and partner organizations and was dedicated to exploring solutions to expand access to financial services, promote digitalization, and support women's active participation in the economy. In her speech, the head of the NBM highlighted Moldova's progress in digitalizing financial services, as well as initiatives to expand the population's access to modern financial instruments. Among these initiatives is the instant payment system (MIA): launched in March 2024, MIA enables fast and affordable electronic transfers for both citizens and businesses. Currently, one in three Moldovans with a bank card uses this service, reflecting progress in the digitalization of financial infrastructure and the expansion of financial accessibility. In March 2025, the “FinanciarELE - Women's Leadership Community” project was launched to develop financial and leadership skills among women in Moldova. This initiative provides access to mentoring programs, professional training, and career opportunities in the financial and banking sector, thereby contributing to the diversification and consolidation of human capital in the financial sector. “Financial inclusion is not only about access to financial products and services, but also about the ability of every person, regardless of gender, age, or social status, to actively participate in economic life. Our progress in digitizing the financial system and supporting the development of diverse leadership is fundamental to strengthening sustainable economic growth and ensuring equal participation in society,” said Anca Dragu The event took place in the context of the Moldovan delegation's participation in the spring meetings of the World Bank Group and the IMF. //25.04.2025 – InfoMarket
