The World Bank has lowered its GDP growth forecast for Moldova in 2025 from 3.9% to 0.9% and in 2026 from 4.5% to 2.4%
This follows from the new issue of the World Bank's Regional Economic Updates report for April 2025. The document notes that last year Moldova's economic growth was 0.1% instead of the 2.8% previously forecast by the World Bank, i.e., 2.7 percentage points less than expected, and this figure was recorded against the backdrop of the energy crisis and sharp rises in energy prices. It should be noted that the World Bank's Global Economic Prospects report for January 2025 stated that the World Bank had maintained its GDP growth forecast for Moldova in 2025 and 2026 at 3.9% and 4.5%, respectively, while at the end of 2024, WB experts expected the Moldovan economy to grow by 2.8%, which is 0.6 percentage points higher than the forecast in the Global Economic Prospects report in June 2024 (2.2%). According to preliminary data from the National Bureau of Statistics, Moldova's GDP in 2024 amounted to 323 billion 817 million lei, up 0.1% compared to 2023. As previously reported, the International Monetary Fund has lowered its GDP growth forecast for Moldova in 2025 from 3.7% to 0.6%. At the same time, the Fund's experts forecast Moldova's economic growth at 2.5% for 2026 and 5% for the end of the next five-year period (2030). Earlier, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development lowered its GDP growth forecast for Moldova in 2025 from 3.5% to 2%, and expects economic growth of 3.8% in 2026. //25.04.2025 – InfoMarket.
