The IMF has lowered Moldova's GDP growth forecast for 2025 from 3.7% to 0.6%

This follows from the new, April World Economic Outlook (WEO) published by the International Monetary Fund. At the same time, the Fund's experts forecast Moldova's economic growth by 2.5% for 2026, while at the end of the next 5-year period (2030) they forecast the GDP growth of our country by 5%. The IMF analysts believe that inflation in Moldova will reach 8% in 2025 and 5.9% in 2026, while earlier they expected an inflation of 5% this year. The Fund's experts also changed the forecast of Moldova's current account deficit, expecting it to amount to 14.5% of GDP in 2025 and 13.8% in 2026 (the previous forecast for 2025 was 10.7%). It should be noted that within the framework of the previous October World Economic Outlook the IMF kept the forecast of Moldova's GDP growth in 2024 at the level of 2.6%, and for 2025 - lowered it by 1 p.p. - from 4.8% to 3.7%. According to preliminary data of the National Bureau of Statistics, Moldova's GDP in 2024 amounted to 323 billion 817 million lei and increased by 0.1% compared to 2023. Earlier, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development reduced the forecast of Moldova's GDP growth in 2025 from 3.5% to 2%, while in 2026 it expects economic growth of 3.8%.
