Specialized commissions of the European Parliament on March 6 approved a support package for Moldova worth 1.9 billion euros, while the final vote on it at the plenary session of the European Parliament will be held next week
The statement was made by Romanian MEP, Co-chairman of the Parliamentary Committee for the Moldova-EU Association, Co-rapporteur of the European Parliament on the 1.9-billion-euro Economic Growth Plan for Moldova, Siegfried Muresan. He said that, in this way, the European Parliament's specialized commissions confirmed the agreement reached during the inter-institutional talks between the European Parliament and the EU Council two weeks ago, which includes two important proposals - an increase in the overall budget from 1.8 billion euros to 1.9 billion euros, as well as an increase in the amount of the preliminary financing, relative to the initial version, by 200 million euros, up to 315 million euros. Siegfried Muresan stressed that the fund for Moldova will finance hospitals, schools, modernization of the transport infrastructure and new bridges across the Prut. Also, the necessary investments and reforms to reduce Moldova's energy dependence on Russia will be backed through this instrument. He explained that the final vote at the plenary session of the European Parliament on the 1.9-billion-euro support package for Moldova will take place next week, and once adopted, the European legislation will come into force, and Moldova will be able to access the first funds already in April. Earlier it was reported that the EU allocates funds from the Reform and Growth Facility for Moldova for the following purposes: new roads, bridges and railroad infrastructure; energy security - to complete a new power transmission line and start construction of 2 more, which will connect Moldova to the EU power grid; construction of 2 new well-equipped hospitals in Cahul and Balti; improving access to finance and support for 25 thousand enterprises, including small family businesses, etc. // 06.03.2025 - InfoMarket
