In Moldova, pensions will be indexed by 10% from April 1 and the average pension will increase to 4,407 lei - Government

Cabinet of Ministers announced this while endorsing on Wednesday a positive opinion on a draft law that provides for the indexation of pensions by 10% starting from April 1. The measure is aimed at improving the welfare and social protection of elderly people in Moldova. The law on the indexation of pensions from April 1 stipulates that the indexation coefficient of 10% will be applied only to the part of the pension that does not exceed the average monthly salary of 16,100 lei, projected for 2025. Thus, a fair and sustainable increase in pensions will be ensured to all pensioners in our country. “We have many elderly people who have worked all their lives but receive a rather small pension, and we at the Ministry have set ourselves the goal of fixing this inequality and offering pensioners as much support as possible. I am glad that from 2021 until now, we managed to increase the minimum pension from 1,188 to 3,055 lei and we will continue working in this direction,” Labor and Social Protection Minister Alexei Buzu said. According to him, thus, after the indexation on April 1, the average pension will increase to 4,407 lei, while the minimum pension will rise to 3,055 lei. At the same time, a legislative initiative was adopted earlier, setting the minimum pension at 3,300 lei for people with 40 years of labor experience at the moment of retirement. The realization of this measure requires the identification of additional financial resources. In this context, the government will assess the costs and identify the necessary sources of financing, simultaneously with the adjustment of the state budget and the social insurance budget for the current year. // 05.03.2025 - InfoMarket
