Electricity tariffs will be reduced in Moldova due to free electricity supplies from Moldavskaya GRES to the right bank of the Dniester from February 1 to 10

Moldovan government spokesman Daniel Voda announced this, noting that this is stipulated by a new transparent proposal presented by Prime Minister Dorin Recean to Tiraspol, which covers two key aspects: creating conditions for the reduction of tariffs on the right bank of the Dniester and preventing a humanitarian catastrophe on the left bank. Daniel Voda emphasized that Chisinau and Brussels have announced two phases of the aid package from the EU. In particular, the immediate, emergency intervention, from January 28 to February 10, provides that the EU has allocated a grant of 30 million euros, which will allow Energocom to purchase natural gas on the free market. Through Moldovagaz, the necessary volumes of gas will be supplied to the left bank of the Dniester to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe, as well as to generate electricity for the right bank. Also, the Moldovan government approved a loan of 3 million cubic meters of natural gas for the left bank of the Dniester, in order to maintain the pressure in the gas system. This measure will ensure stability in the gas system until January 31. If the left bank agrees to accept the aid, this supply will become part of the EU aid package. If not, the 3 million cubic meters of gas must be returned by March 1 or paid by Tiraspoltransgaz at the market price at which Moldovagaz purchased the gas. The Moldovan government spokesman emphasized that the solution proposed by Chisinau and Brussels would directly benefit the people. In particular, on the right bank of the Dniester, electricity tariffs will be reduced due to free electricity supplies from Moldavskaya GRES from February 1 to 10. On the left bank of the Dniester, residents will receive heat and light starting February 1. The natural gas supplied on an emergency basis is not intended for large industrial consumers, such as Moldova Steel Works (MMZ), crypto farms and other non-transparent activities that previously thrived at the expense of the region's residents. Gas supplies will be restricted to meet the needs of households, kindergartens, hospitals, schools and basic businesses such as bakeries and small businesses. The Moldovan government spokesman said that after February 10, the responsibility for energy supply will fall on Tiraspol. “It is obvious, both for us and for them, that there is no more 'free gas'. This fact was officially confirmed by the Russian embassy in a reply sent to the Moldovan Foreign Ministry in recent days,” the Moldovan government spokesman emphasized. He once again drew attention to the fact that the government, together with the European Union, will elaborate a comprehensive energy sustainability program for the next 2 years, which will come into force immediately after this date. The program envisages investments in electricity generation and distribution infrastructure, as well as concrete measures to reduce and equalize electricity and gas tariffs for all Moldovan citizens. “Of course, difficult, detailed and technical negotiations lie ahead with a regime that remains opaque. Nevertheless, we strive to bring light to the left bank of the Dniester, without giving up our principles that unite us on the right bank,” Daniel Voda emphasized. // 28.01.2025 - InfoMarket
