Moldova buys electricity on the Romanian exchange at a price of 114-118 euros/MWh, which is almost twice the previous purchase price from MoldGRES

This was announced by the State Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Constantin Borosan, noting that the authorities are trying to keep the cost of importing electricity from Romania below the level provided for by the recently increased regulated tariff. "We buy on the OPCOM exchange and today there is a situation of excess electricity, there is a lot of supply on the market because there are non-working days, days off, a lot of energy and the price on the exchange is very attractive. Today the price was 114 euros/MWh and 118 euros for tomorrow. It is important for us, and we strive, we want to meet the price that is included in the tariff today, regulated and approved by NAER," said Constantin Borosan. It should be noted that until the end of 2024, Energocom purchased electricity from the Moldovan State District Power Plant (MGRES) located in Transnistria at a price of $66 per 1 MWh (approximately 63 euros). After Gazprom stopped supplying gas to the Transnistrian region, MoldGRES no longer supplies electricity to the right bank of the Dniester. Moldova covers its energy needs through domestic production, renewable sources, and imports from Romania, which account for about 50% of total consumption. // 09.01.2025 - InfoMarket
