Government will compensate households for the increase in electricity tariffs, but within the consumption limit of 110 kWh per month
This was announced at a press conference on Friday by Labor and Social Protection Minister Alexei Buzu after the National Agency for Energy Regulation approved new electricity tariffs. According to him, under the compensation program, implemented by the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, household consumers, who do not use electricity as the main source of heating during the cold season, will be compensated for the increase in tariffs, but not more than 110 kWh per month per household. A prerequisite for receiving compensation is registration in the Ajutor la contor (Help at the Meter) system. The maximum compensation limit is calculated based on the average consumption of households in the previous cold season - about 140 kWh. Government encourages citizens to save energy in order to reach the limit of 110 kWh per month. Alexei Buzu urged citizens registered in the compensation program to monitor their personal account on the government platform compensatii.gov.md on a monthly basis, in order to keep track of possible changes in the amount of compensation depending on the evolution of tariffs. “We decided to compensate 80% of the average electricity consumption of households every month. At the same time, compared to November, we increased the compensations for households that heat with natural gas, the average compensation increased from 524 to 715 lei. I urge citizens to show patience, solidarity and to consume electricity and heat energy as efficiently as possible. Government is by the side of the citizens, and together we will survive this winter with dignity,” Alexei Buzu said. The Ministry specified that in December 2024, about 680 thousand households were entitled to compensation, while the necessary budget for the payment of compensations for December is estimated at 500 million lei. While answering journalists' questions whether compensations are envisaged for economic agents, Alexei Buzu said that the head of the Cabinet of Ministers, Dorin Recean, instructed the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization to elaborate a package of measures to support businesses during the cold season, which will be presented in the nearest future. // 03.01.2025 - InfoMarket.
