Trade turnover between Moldova and China exceeded $1 billion in 2023, and China is among the top 5 countries in terms of product supplies to Moldova

This was discussed during the 2nd Moldovan-Chinese Economic Forum, which was organized by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Moldova and China. The event was held in Chisinau on December 11 and brought together representatives of Moldovan and Chinese businesses, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Environment of Moldova, the Organization for the Development of Entrepreneurship (ODA), as well as the Chinese Embassy in Chisinau. In his opening speech, Boris Foca, President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Moldova and China, noted that the event is taking place in December, when the institution he heads celebrates its 6th anniversary. He recalled that the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Moldova and China was established on December 5, 2018. "We are at the beginning of the journey. Our goal is to promote the establishment of a mutually beneficial partnership between the Moldovan and Chinese business communities, to become a bridge of trust between Moldovan business and Chinese partners and to help minimize the risks of economic agents cooperating with China,” said Boris Foca. According to him, although in 2023 the volume of trade between Moldova and China exceeded $1 billion, the trade balance is not in favor of our country. “The trade balance is far from being in Moldova’s favor, but at the same time, it is worth noting that many countries in the world, including much more developed ones, have a negative trade balance with China. China is among the top 5 countries in terms of the volume of products supplied to Moldova. In 2023, Moldova imported electrical products from China for $350 million, electrical machines and parts for electrical equipment for $175 million, packaging for $70 million. The remaining volume of imports from China consisted of plastic products, furniture and decorative items. "As for the export of Moldovan products to China, the largest volumes are wine, beer and textiles," said the Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Moldova and China. He stressed that a delegation of Chinese businessmen is currently in Chisinau to establish direct contacts with various Moldovan enterprises. The forum participants had the opportunity to get acquainted with the program of 11 exhibitions that will be held in Shanghai, Wuhan and Ganji in the period from March to July 2025, as well as with the conditions for participation in 8 economic missions organized during this period by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Moldova and China. The purpose of these economic missions is to simplify the conditions for participation in exhibitions and facilitate direct dialogue between representatives of the Moldovan and Chinese business environment, as well as to promote the establishment of mutually beneficial and direct cooperation between the parties. "Since December 1, 2024, the Moldovan-Chinese Chamber of Commerce provides a new service called "Your Agent in China". Its goal is to simplify the search for Chinese partners and provide Moldovan enterprises with detailed information on import procedures from China and export to China,” said Boris Foca, adding that a Chinese citizen has been hired for these purposes. // 11.12.2024 — InfoMarket.
