The European Commission has decided to allocate Moldova the fifth and final tranche of the current macro-financial assistance of 50 million euros

According to the European Commission's report, 45 million euros are provided in loans and 5 million euros in grants. The disbursement will take place in the coming days. Overall, with this latest disbursement, Moldova will receive a total of 295 million euros within this targeted macro-financial assistance operation, launched in July 2022. “The European Commission is allocating another 50 million euros to Moldova to support reforms and economic stability in the country,” European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said, noting Moldova's efforts to reform its justice system on its way to the EU. According to the European Commission, the financial aid allocated to Moldova will help cover part of its financial needs in 2024 and ensure macroeconomic stability, while supporting its reform program in line with the current IMF program. The European Commission is granting this assistance after concluding that Moldova has fulfilled all the political conditions agreed with the EU. In particular, Moldova has strengthened the rule of law by making progress in finalizing the pre-clearance procedure for the approval of the self-governing bodies of the judiciary. Progress has also been made in the fight against corruption by defining the powers of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office and the National Anti-Corruption Center to investigate high-level corruption cases. The country also continues to fight the informal economy by adopting the Employment Program for 2022-2026 and conducting targeted actions to combat undeclared work. Moldova has also strengthened its energy sector by expanding staff and expertise in the Ministry of Energy and the National Center for Sustainable Energy. The macro-financial assistance is part of the EU's broader efforts to support Moldova to face the many challenges of recent years and to help the country move forward on its European path. // 11.12.2024 - InfoMarket.
