
Moldova and China are interested in expanding trade, economic and investment cooperation, implementing joint projects and will hold the next meeting of the intergovernmental commission in 2025
This was discussed during the 5th round of Moldovan-Chinese political consultations held in Beijing, the last of which was held in 2012. The delegations of the parties at the current consultations were headed by State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Sergiu Mihov and his Chinese counterpart Liu Bin. They discussed current aspects of bilateral relations and ways to intensify cooperation between Moldova and China in key areas such as politics and diplomacy, economics, law, culture, social and humanitarian, consular sphere, as well as mutual support in international organizations. The parties emphasized the importance of deepening and strengthening the dialogue between the two countries in areas of mutual interest. An agreement was also reached to hold the next meeting of the joint intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation in 2025. In the context of mutual support for sovereignty and territorial integrity, Sergiu Mihov reaffirmed Moldova's commitment to the "one China" principle, and Liu Bin emphasized China's support for Moldova's territorial integrity. The State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Moldova also confirmed our country's interest in expanding Moldovan-Chinese cooperation in trade, economic and investment spheres, given China's experience in attracting foreign investment and modernizing the economy. China's successes in developing the renewable energy sector, information technology and digitalization of the economy and society were also noted. During the talks, the parties expressed their readiness to further explore cooperation opportunities within the framework of China's Belt and Road economic initiative, which opens up broad opportunities for economic connectivity projects and basic infrastructure development. Moldova's European aspirations, the security situation in the region, including the war in Ukraine, the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict, political events in Southeast Asia and the Pacific region were also discussed. In conclusion, it was decided to organize the next round of inter-ministerial political consultations in Chisinau at a time convenient for both parties in 2025.
