EBRD will provide €143.5 million for optimization of Chisinau's thermal energy system

This is provided for in the loan agreement signed on November 29 by Energy Minister Victor Parlicov and Deputy Director of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Octavian Costas. The EBRD loan will complement the financing of other external partners of Moldova for a large project with a total budget of €326.5 million. The project is supported by loans from the EBRD and the European Investment Bank (EIB), as well as grants from the Eastern Europe Energy Efficiency and Environment Partnership (E5P) and the European Union Neighborhood Investment Platform (EU NIP). As specified by the press service of the Ministry of Energy, the project in Chisinau plans to install 2,510 individual heating points and implement horizontal heat distribution in 1,665 apartment buildings. Due to this, consumers will be able to independently regulate energy consumption and turn the heating on or off in their apartments. These measures will help reduce heat loss by up to 30%, lower costs for consumers, and by reducing carbon dioxide emissions, reduce the negative impact on the environment. The funds will also be used to insulate buildings, reconstruct primary heating networks, and build two pumping stations. All planned measures are aimed at improving the efficiency, reliability, and quality of heating and hot water supply services. “The buildings sector accounts for about 50% of final energy consumption, so we have made energy efficiency a national priority. At the same time, we remain committed to diversifying energy sources and integrating renewable sources where possible. By 2030, we aim to ensure that our systems are modern and sustainable, ready to meet the demands of an ever-changing energy landscape,” Victor Parlicov said at the event. // 29.11.2024 — InfoMarket
