Moldovan parliament has passed in the first reading amendments to the Law on the state budget for 2024, reducing its deficit by 1.67 billion (-10%) to 15 billion 104.3 million lei

In particular, according to the amendments proposed by the Ministry of Finance, the revenue part of the state budget for 2024 is to be increased by 1 billion 180.1 million lei (+1.8%) - from 65 billion 830.54 million to 67 billion 010.6 million lei, the expenditure part - to be decreased by 493.4 million lei (-0.6%) - from 82 billion 608.34 million to 82 billion 114.9 million lei, and the state budget deficit - to be decreased, respectively, by 1 billion 673.5 million lei (-10%) - from 16 billion 777.8 million to 15 billion 104.3 million lei. The amendments to the state budget for 2024 were developed by the Ministry of Finance to adjust the indicators for revenues, expenditures and deficit, taking into account the updated forecast of macroeconomic indicators for 2024, as well as the level of execution of the state budget for 9 months of the current year. Thus, against the background of economic recovery in the second half of 2024, largely determined by the recovery of domestic demand, the collection of revenues from taxes and fees of the national public budget is growing. This increase was mainly due to the increase in income from salaries, as well as the collection of revenues from taxes and indirect payments. At the same time, based on the fact that during this period, state budget revenues grew faster than expenditures, the amendments to the state budget provide for a reduction in the budget deficit by 1.67 billion lei. The bill provides for a reduction in expenditures by 493.4 million lei, as well as the redistribution of part of the identified savings. Thus, 622 million lei will be allocated for the modernization of the country's road infrastructure and road repairs. Another 100 million lei are intended to support small and medium-sized businesses, and 60 million are allocated for the implementation of National Afforestation and Reforestation Program. The amendments to the Law on the State Budget for 2024 must be approved by the Parliament in the second reading. // 21.11.2024 – InfoMarket
