Romania will implement new projects in Moldova in various fields under a grant agreement totaling 100 million euros - Marcel Ciolacu

The Romanian Prime Minister made this statement during his meeting in Chisinau with his Moldovan counterpart Dorin Recean during an official visit to Moldova. The main topic of the talks between the heads of government of the two countries was the general and specific support that Romania provides and will continue to provide to Moldova in the process of its European integration. Marcel Ciolacu noted that the Romanian government will continue to support Moldova's development at all levels, and Moldovans should be confident that their path to prosperity, security and development will continue, and Romania will do everything possible to support it. Dorin Recean and Marcel Ciolacu attended the ceremony of Romania donating 20 school minibuses to Moldova, which is a continuation of a larger project that has benefited many schools in Moldova. As noted, moreover, the Romanian government has made more extensive and long-term efforts to support education in Moldova. In addition to providing minibuses for transporting students, since the 1990s the Romanian state has financed the renovation and modernization of hundreds of kindergartens or allocated tens of thousands of scholarships. For the current academic year, 4,300 scholarships for students from Moldova are financed. Another decision approved at the last government meeting in Bucharest was the decision to finance the restoration of a historic building on Gavriil Bănulescu-Bodoni Street in Chisinau for over 2.3 million euros. The head of the Romanian government also stressed that Romania will continue to implement the 100 million euro agreement between the governments of Romania and Moldova on the implementation of a technical and financial assistance program based on grant financial assistance. According to him, important projects have received and will continue to receive funding in addition to funding for the purchase of school minibuses for pupils to go to school or for the restoration of some historic buildings. These are local development projects or strategic investments, including for increasing the capacity to manage public order situations. Marcel Ciolacu noted that another area in which Romania supported Moldova is strengthening energy security and interconnection of energy networks, emphasizing that Romania's Energy Strategy includes this commitment. As for the transport infrastructure, Marcel Ciolacu mentioned such projects as the construction of the road bridge in Ungheni, the contract for which was signed a few days ago, the modernization of a number of bridges over the Prut River, for example, in Sculeni or Oancea, or the projects of 4 new bridges over the Prut: Costesti-Stinca, Leca-Falciu, Barboieni-Raducaneni, Leova-Bumbata.// 04.10.2024 — InfoMarket
