Moldova will receive a grant from the World Bank in the amount of over 5.6 million euros to modernize and equip the network of laboratories of the National Public Health Agency with modern equipment

This is provided for by a corresponding grant agreement between Moldova and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (part of the World Bank group), which the parties signed on June 17, and was ratified by the Moldovan parliament on July 18. In particular, our country will receive grant funding of 5.6 million euros for the project “Improving pandemic preparedness and response by strengthening infrastructure, human resources, surveillance and advanced laboratory systems in Moldova.” The allocated money is intended for the overhaul of buildings and laboratories of the National Public Health Agency, strengthening the national network of laboratories and equipping them with modern equipment. Likewise, the legislative framework to strengthen the biosafety and biosecurity system will be reviewed. Another component of the project is to strengthen surveillance and response systems for both pandemics and public health emergencies. In this regard, the national surveillance system will be digitized. Likewise, the funds will be used to strengthen human capacity involved in preventing, preparing for and responding to public health emergencies, aligning the specialist education program with international and EU programmes. The money will be allocated to Moldova through the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development from the Pandemic Prevention, Preparedness and Response Trust Fund (Pandemic Fund), a multilateral partnership created by the World Bank in collaboration with the World Health Organization and other partners. It should be noted that within the framework of the same project, our country will also receive a grant of $4.3 million from the World Health Organization. These funds will be used by WHO to implement public health projects in our country. // 18.07.2024 — InfoMarket.
