Moldova has approved a 5-year program to promote the green and circular economy with implementation requiring almost 210 million lei
At a meeting on Wednesday, the government approved the corresponding program for 2024-2028. It aims to integrate Moldova's capacity to adopt and implement green and circular economy principles to facilitate the economic transition to sustainable development. This involves protecting the environment, creating employment opportunities, improving energy security and reducing production costs through the efficient use of resources and materials. Also, the implementation of the program will allow Moldova to comply with the goals of the European Green Deal, the provisions of the National Development Strategy “Moldova 2030” and the Environmental Strategy for 2020-2030. Thus, as part of the program, the Moldovan authorities will develop new policy documents in the field of green economy, as well as update the regulatory framework, which will simplify the environmental performance of enterprises and will attract sustainable investments. It is planned to stimulate the development of environmental entrepreneurship. For example, the number of beneficiaries of ODA grants that work according to the principles of the “green” economy is planned to increase from 84 in 2022 to 200 by 2028, at least 100 goods/services will have an environmental “green” label, and the number of incentive measures will grow from the current 5 to 12 by 2028. It is planned to increase the share of recycled waste, reduce the generation of plastic in production processes by 20% and a general reduction in waste production (currently, according to the project authors, about 166 thousand tons of plastic and 3.3 million cubic meters of waste per year are generated). The share of environmental innovation in production processes is expected to increase, information campaigns will be carried out to promote the circular economy, and the number of educational programs in this area will increase. The implementation of the Strategy will require 209.6 million lei, 47% of this amount is planned to be raised from development partners. // 10.07.2024 – InfoMarket.
