This was stated by World Bank Vice President for Europe and Central Asia Antonella Bassani at a meeting with the Prime Minister of Moldova Dorin Recean during her first visit to our country since her appointment to this position. Dorin Recean thanked the Vice President of the World Bank for the strong partnership between the said financial institution and Moldova, which helps the authorities implement a reform program and projects that have a direct impact on all residents of the country. Antonella Bassani congratulated the Moldovan authorities on the start of negotiations on European integration, noting that this path will open up many opportunities, and the World Bank will help take advantage of them. “We will provide you with full support: financial, technical and expert to help you in priority areas,” said the WB Vice President. The prime minister clarified that the authorities are currently focused on measures to maintain economic growth and increase investor confidence in the Moldovan economy. In this regard, actions to ensure a friendly and safe business environment were mentioned, with an emphasis on justice reform. In this context, Antonella Bassani emphasized the role of the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency - MIGA, part of the World Bank Group. As noted, investment guarantee instruments will provide additional security to investors and help attract innovative projects to the economy in the context of the proximity of Russian aggression in Ukraine. The development of the capital market in Moldova was also discussed, which will increase the country’s attractiveness for foreign investors, and will also help strengthen the stability of the financial system. The total portfolio of World Bank loans in Moldova is $2.55 billion. Projects are aimed at improving the quality of education and medical services, increasing the competitiveness of agriculture, energy connectivity with Romania, modernizing public services, supporting small and medium-sized enterprises, more efficient registration and valuation of land, access to water and sewerage. // 09.07.2024 – InfoMarket
