Moldova has announced a re-tender for the expansion of the Vulcanesti power plant by building an additional 400 kV cell to connect the Vulcanesti-Chisinau transmission line.
This was announced by the Consolidated Unit for Implementation and Monitoring of Energy Projects (UCIPE). UCIPE director Ruslan Surugiu said that the relevant works, as well as an investment package providing for the modernization of the Chisinau power plant, will allow connecting the 400 kV Vulcanesti-Chisinau transmission line under construction. “These measures are necessary to ensure the country's energy security, including the possibility of ensuring cross-border energy transportation between Moldova and the European Union via Romania. Thanks to this project, we will reduce Moldova's energy dependence, including the dependence on Moldavskaya GRES, located in the Transnistrian region,” Ruslan Surugiu said. According to him, the works are part of the Energy System Development Project and are included in the package of urgent measures of the Moldovan Government and the Ministry of Energy, aimed at ensuring the country's energy security. The project costs 61 million euros and is financed by the International Development Association, a member of the World Bank Group. According to UCIPE, the relevant tender procedure for the expansion of the Vulcanesti power plant by constructing an additional 400 kV cell to connect the Vulcanesti-Chisinau transmission line was re-announced because the bids at the first auction did not meet the technical requirements of the terms of reference. // 03.06.2024 - InfoMarket.
