The first Moldova-EU intergovernmental conference, which will mark the official start of negotiations on Moldova's accession to the EU, will be held tentatively in 2H 2024.
This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov, who said that at the meeting of the National Commission for European Integration, she presented to the members of this Commission the actions undertaken over the last two months in the context of Moldova's European agenda and the calendar of fulfillment of the commitments to the EU. The participants in the meeting talked about the process of elaborating our contribution to the European Commission's 2024 enlargement package; the preparation of the national institutions for the next stage of legislative assessment; the progress in the implementation of the National Action Plan on EU accession for 2024-2027; the holding of the Moldova-EU Intergovernmental Conference and the preparation of a common negotiating position. Cristina Gherasimov stressed that in 2024, two contributions to the European Commission's Enlargement Package will be presented, which will be published on April 24 and in September. Clarification sessions are being held between February and May as part of the screening process on political and economic criteria as well as on 33 chapters of EU legislation. So far, clarification sessions have been held on 17 chapters. The explanatory screening is followed by bilateral screening, which will start after the first Moldova-EU intergovernmental conference (tentatively in the second half of this year). The bilateral screening will present the level of compliance of the national legislation with the European Community norms, administrative capacities for implementation and anti-corruption mechanisms, as well as plans for transposition and implementation of the European legislation. "The government will develop a common negotiating position of Moldova, which will be presented at the first intergovernmental conference. This de facto event will also mark the official start of the negotiations," Cristina Gherasimov emphasized. She urged all state institutions, civil society and the business environment to mobilize to the maximum, noting that we are going through an important period for Moldova's future. "European integration is a project of our country and we have all chances to succeed, provided that we participate and work with great dedication and responsibility," Deputy Prime Minister for European integration said. // 19.04.2024 - InfoMarket.
