Moldova will receive a new grant of 1.3 million euros from Eurocontrol in 2024 for air traffic management.
This was reported by the parliament's press service, noting that Moldova will continue to receive funds from the Voluntary Solidarity Fund for European Air Traffic Management. The Parliamentary Commission on Foreign Policy and European Integration approved the start of negotiations on the extension of the agreement between Moldova and the European Organization for the Safety of Air Navigation (Eurocontrol) and the subsequent signing of the corresponding document. It is expected that in 2024 Moldova will receive an additional grant of 1.3 million euros to finance costs related to air traffic management. The money is intended to cover personnel costs, costs associated with professional training or any other costs associated with operational preparation for the resumption of air traffic. This occurs in the context that, due to the war in Ukraine, the State Enterprise MoldATSA needs additional financial resources to carry out its activities in accordance with the standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization and Eurocontrol. It should be noted that the multilateral agreement between Moldova and Eurocontrol on the implementation of the Voluntary Solidarity Fund in the field of European air traffic management was signed in 2023. The Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development announced in December 2023 that Eurocontrol member states have approved the extension of the European Voluntary Solidarity Fund for air transport management in support of MoldATSA. It was noted that in 2023 MoldATSA received 2.5 million euros in the form of gratuitous financial assistance, and in 2024 it will receive another 1.326 million euros for personnel and continuous training. Eurocontrol is the European Organization for the Safety of Air Navigation, created in 1960 with the aim of developing a pan-European air traffic management system within the framework of the Single Skies for Europe project. The organization coordinates and plans air traffic control over a large part of Europe, for which a system of functional blocks of European airspace is created. This includes working with national authorities, air navigation service providers, airports and other organizations. Eurocontrol's activities include all air navigation services operations: strategic and tactical traffic management, air traffic controller training, regional airspace management. // 07.02.2024 — InfoMarket
