The Competition Council of Moldova is initiating market research in several key sectors.

In particular, the Competition Council has identified several priority markets to be examined in 2024 through useful market research. As the Competition Council notes, the purpose of such research is to study the competitive situation in the main sectors of the national economy, and they are designed to identify the main barriers, as well as the risks of distorting the competitive environment. Key areas of interest for useful research planned for 2024 include: the marketing of medicinal products for human use; market for the production and sale of grains and oilseeds; market for the supply of agricultural and food products between enterprises. In particular, an in-depth assessment of the marketing of medicinal products for human use will identify possible shortcomings and optimize this important process for the public health system. Market analysis of the production and marketing of grains and oilseeds will provide a comprehensive understanding of the dynamics and problems in this important sector of the national economy, helping to identify existing limitations, as well as appropriate solutions to improve the situation in this market. As part of the study of the market for the supply of agricultural and food products between enterprises, the supply chains of agricultural and food products and the existing practice of relationships between distribution networks (“retail sector”) and their suppliers (“agricultural and food producers”) will be examined. The main goal is to identify existing blockages and dysfunctions in the relationship between agricultural producers and traders, including those related to access to distribution networks. At the same time, the Competition Council will continue to study the advertising market, basic data about which the antimonopoly authority must submit annually. The Competition Council notes that useful investigations of market information do not constitute investigations into specific indicators of violations of competition law. Their goal is to study the structure of the relevant markets, identify market shortcomings, main market participants, existing practices, legislative gaps, etc. In this regard, the Competition Council will hold a number of events, including round tables and bilateral meetings with business associations, representatives of companies operating in the relevant markets, representatives of government bodies and institutions, and civil society. The purpose of these meetings will be to identify the main problems in the respective markets. After this, detailed information is collected on the activities of enterprises and the functioning of relevant markets, statistical data, and the study of relevant legislative norms. The Competition Council said it was resuming its previous practice of conducting market research, but would focus on a few key sectors to be researched each year. Herewith, after completion of these studies, the main conclusions drawn from their results will be presented to the business environment, representatives of government agencies and the general public. // 02.02.2024 — InfoMarket
