The first step has been taken towards the construction of the Iasi-Ungheni-Chisinau-Odessa highway - the corridor of Moldova to the European Union - Andrei Spinu.

This was announced by the Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development of Moldova Andrei Spinu, noting that together with the Director of the State Road Administration Sergiu Bejan he signed a Cooperation Agreement with the European Investment Bank, through which the World Road Association (PIARC) will finance a preliminary feasibility study for the construction of this highway. As Andrei Spinu emphasized, a preliminary feasibility study will be compiled in 2024, and the final version will be completed by the end of 2025. These documents provide for the collection of information and data on the current state of road infrastructure, planned traffic intensity, and economic assessment. Geographical points and main technical parameters (width, etc.) of the road will also be determined. The construction of this highway is a project of national importance. The Ungheni-Chisinau-Odessa highway will connect the regional economic and industrial centers of the three countries, will promote trade, economic and social development, and Moldova will become closer to the EU, including at the infrastructure level. “We all want this project to be completed as quickly as possible and construction to begin as soon as possible. At the same time, we must realize that such projects take time. Unfortunately, a lot of time was lost. These studies should have been done many years ago. Now we are catching up. We will try to complete the remaining stages as quickly as possible in the coming years: design, determination of financial resources, holding a tender and starting work. The construction of the Ungheni-Chisinau-Odessa highway is one of the national projects of the Moldova Infrastructure Reconstruction Plan 5+,” wrote Andrei Spinu. Earlier, he noted that the project for the construction of the Ungheni-Chisinau-Odessa highway involves 2 sections of the road: Ungheni - Chisinau with a length of 110 km and Chisinau - Odessa with a length of 190 km, of which 145 km passes through the territory of Moldova. // 30.01.2024 – InfoMarket.
