Parliament ratified an agreement with the European Union on Moldova's participation in the EU Single Market Programme with a total budget of 4.2 billion euros.

The agreement was signed in Brussels on 8 September. The EU's Single Market Programme is set for 2021-2027, and Moldova has expressed interest in participating in the components of market surveillance and competitiveness of its small and medium-sized enterprises. According to the Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization, Dumitru Alaiba, this program is designed to prepare both the private sector and public institutions to European rules and standards, offering a more coherent and flexible financing structure to strengthen the capacity to access the single European market. In this way, the capacity and standards to comply with EU internal market rules will be increased and the competitiveness and resilience of SMEs will be strengthened. New business opportunities will emerge and industrial value chains will be developed. Moreover, thanks to this program, trade will operate efficiently by implementing high European and international quality standards and thus high levels of consumer protection and product safety. "The EU Single Market Programme aims to support and promote a culture of innovation through the development of industrial ecosystems, which will stimulate the emergence of start-ups and foster the development of existing SMEs. There is also a special focus on promoting new business models," said Dumitru Alaiba. Also, besides access to financial instruments, Moldova's accession to this program will ensure openness to the expertise, experience and best practices of other states, its beneficiaries. The Single Market Programme represents a significant step in Moldova's gradual integration into the EU Single Market open for free competition, which is the main goal of Moldova in the EU accession process. As previously reported, the Single Market Programme is a financial assistance program of the EU with a budget of 4.2 billion euros, designed for 7 years (2021-2027). The program is designed to facilitate access to markets, create a favorable business environment, promote business development and growth, ensure competitiveness and resilience of companies and entire sectors of the economy (combination of ecosystems, clusters), develop the entrepreneurial environment, etc. // 24.11.2023 - InfoMarket.
